When I Committed Suislide

19 Apr

And I did it…yes, we did it!

Suisliding was my first ever extreme adventure! My husband and I successfully survived the 480 meter zipline called “Suislide”. At an altitude of 200meter, suislide they say is the highest and longest zipline in the Philippines. It is found in Danao Adventure Park, Bohol. Continue reading

Tasting Chocolate Hills and Smelling Tarsiers

17 Mar

A day after our wedding, my husband and I went off right away to his hometown in Bohol, Philippines-the popular tourist destination for Chocolate Hills and Philippine Tarsier.

Tasting the chocolates.

The Chocolate Hills form a rolling terrain of haycock hills – mounds of a generally conical and almost symmetrical shape. Estimated to be from 1,268 to about 1,776 individual mounds, these cone-shaped or dome-shaped hills are actually made of grass-covered limestone. During the dry season, the grass-covered hills dry up and turn chocolate brown. This transforms the area into seemingly endless rows of “chocolate kisses”. The branded confection is the inspiration behind the name, Chocolate Hills.

Smelling the tarsiers.

The Philippine Tarsier is considered the second-smallest primate in the world. The small size makes it difficult to spot. Each eye is as large as the tarsier’s brain. The eyes can’t move, so a tarsier has to turn its head to look at things. Tarsiers have scent glands on their lips and abdomens. Urine, feces and fluids from their reproductive tracts also contain smelly chemicals that serve to mark a territory or communicate with other tarsiers in the same group. Tarsiers may group together to chase potential invaders away. Yes, they have an odor, but they’re delightful to the eye.

Now, here’s a piece to delight you! Check this out and discover the island of Bohol.

  • From exhaustion to amazement. Before I tasted the sweet view of the hills, I endured the climb of 214 steps of the view deck to the top. That was quite an effort-full of inhalation, but a good exercise though.
  • From nasal reaction to an eyeful collation.  Before I got the closest view of the species, I endured the stench. That was quite an awful smell, but the tarsiers are a thing of beauty, I forgot to breathe. LOL!

We live to endure. To persevere through whatever we are facing today. To push through whatever circumstance we are in. For once we succeeded, that’s where we’ll find meaning to everything.

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2-4

Be delighted to endure!
